FLOWER FESTIVAL CHIANG MAI

It's been almost 9 months since I went to Thailand and I still have to think of it so often. I was going through my photos the other day and found all these ones, already edited but never posted. I took them at the Flower Festival in Chiang Mai, we were walking around and somehow ended up behind the stage. All the dancers were getting ready for their show, clearly aware of how beautiful and sparkly their dresses and decorations looked like and I just couldn't stop photographing. So here we go, another throwback to Thailand.

23/06 STREETS OF AYUTTHAYA

Sooo I spent an incredible weekend at the Hurricane festival, enjoying the amazing German summer (cheers to temperatures below 10 degrees and constantly damp clothes) and listening to so many amazing artists! Seriously, the Parov Stelar Band act was unbelievable. If you ever get the chance to see them live, don't even hesitate! 

Here are some more photos I took in Thailand. It's been a while now and it already feels so far away. But looking at the photos makes me remember everything so much better and I thought since I have no other new photos to share with you I'll just show you these. 

Ayutthaya was not my favourite part of Thailand, it was super hot and muggy and soo exhausting. But still it was interesting and also quite photogenic so we just walked around the streets with our camera and a huge bottle of water. The photos show pretty good how most Thai people live, what their neighbourhoods look like, their houses, front yards, decorations... And how Thailand looks like away from the tourist bulks ordering non-stop Coconut Water and cute little handbags and all this kind of stuff.

Habe ein unglaubliches Wochenende auf dem Hurricane Festival hinter mir, wir haben den wunderbaren deutschen Sommer genossen (die Temperaturen unter 10 Grad und durchgehend klamme Kleidung sind schon längst vergessen) und noch viel mehr so viele tolle Acts! Ernsthaft,  der Auftritt von Parov Stelar Band war soooo unfassbar gut, falls ihr jemals die Chance habt, die live zu sehen, zögert nicht einmal. Haben so viel getanzt, dass noch am Tag danach meine Knie weh taten!

Noch ein paar Fotos aus Thailand. Kann kaum glauben, dass das schon wieder so lange her ist. Ich gucke so gerne die Fotos an, irgendwie auch, damit die Erinnerungen nicht ganz so schnell verblassen. Und außerdem habe ich nichts anderes zum Posten, also zeige ich euch einfach die.

Ayutthaya war nicht unbedingt mein liebster Stopp auf unserer Reise, es war so heiß und schwül und anstrengend und mein Kreislauf hat nach einer Nacht im Bus und einem Tag in einer Hostel Lobby einfach ein bisschen gestreikt. Aber trotzdem war es total interessant, irgendwie viel authentischer als andere Teile Thailands, die wir gesehen haben also sind wir mit Kamera und großer Wasserflasche los. Die Fotos zeigen irgendwie ganz gut, wie der Großteil der Thais so leben, ihre Häuser, Straßen, Vorgärten, Garagen... Eben so, wie es aussieht, wenn nicht alles auf die Touristenmassen ausgelegt ist, die bestickte Täschchen und Kokoswasser und all diese Dinge am laufenden Band wollen.

01/04 THE RUINS OF SUKHOTHAI

Sukhothai was really a magical place: Cycling among palm tree alleys, savouring the quiet and watching an unreal sunset. We spent a great day exploring the whole area and learning about ancient habits and traditions of Buddhism. If you ever get the chance to spend some time at an (ancient) buddhist temple do it. I don't think there are many more places where you can get so relaxed and calm as there.

Sukhothai war so ein magischer Ort: Fahrradfahren entlang von Palmen gesäumter Wege, die Stille und Natur geniessen und ein fast unrealistischer Sonnenuntergang. Wir haben einen wunderbaren Tag damit verbracht, die ganze Gegend und den Park zu erkunden und haben viel über alte Tempel und die Geschichte Sukhothais gelernt. Solltet ihr jemals die Chance haben, etwas Zeit an einem (alten) buddhistischen Tempel zu verbringen, tut es. Es gibt kaum etwas entspannenderes, beruhigendes als das.

BANGKOK CITY OF ANGELS

I'm back after almost 2 months. It's been a super intense and exciting time I spent in Thailand and I took a lot less photos than expected but that's a good thing I guess; I realized I enjoy editing and sorting them a lot more than at times I took about 2000 or so. It's just too much then. Anyways, I prepared most of my posts now, will be posting some of them during the next days and then probably stop since I'm leaving again, for a few weeks but this time take my laptop with me so I will keep you updated a lot more and post (hopefully a LOT) right away from.... NEW YORK, ohhhh yess! But now: Proudly presenting BANGKOK.

Bin wieder zurück, nach fast 2 Monaten. Es war eine super aufregende, spannende Zeit, die ich in Thailand verbracht habe und ich habe weit weniger Fotos gemacht als erwartet, das ist aber ganz gut so, so habe ich einen besseren Überblick und hab viel mehr Spaß daran, die Fotos alle durchzugehen und zu bearbeiten. Hatte schon Reisen, auf denen ich 2000 oder mehr Bilder gemacht hab, da waren dann schnell 4,5 Wochen rum, bis ich die Motivation hatte, die alle mal durchzusehen. Wie auch immer, jetzt hab ich die meisten Thailand Posts schon vorbereitet, ein paar kommen in den nächsten Tagen und dann wird es erstmal eine Pause davon geben, werde dann nämlich wieder für ein paar Wochen weg sein, diesmal aber mit Laptop und so der Möglichkeit, öfter und mehr zu posten, und zwar direkt aus NEW YORK!! Ohh yes, Vorfreude steigt! Aber jetzt erstmal: BANGKOK.

Bangkok is crazy. It is beautiful, and ugly. It smells amazing, it smells horrible. It's busy, noisy, crowded, exhausting and calm, relaxing, quiet. Old and packed with ancient temples, modern and high with a breathtaking skyline. It is a city full of contrasts and like no place I have ever been to before. Some hate the city, some love it and I have to say I had to travel all around Thailand to come back to Bangkok and realise how amazing the city is. The photos don't nearly show how the city really is, I barely took out my camera when we were taking sky trains, taxis, tuk tuks, when we were walking around modern neighbourhoods or the CBD but only in the old city which is the most touristic. But still, it gives you a slight impression of what Bangkok is like, in the best case. A few kilometers away are crazy streets keeping you stuck in traffic for hours, huge shopping centers and apartment blocks and all what you would expect from an Asian mega city. 

With this post, and the upcoming ones, I can't really give you an overall impression of Thailand. I experienced so many different places and situations and sometimes I just had to consciously live them, not caring about my camera or photos I wanted to take so there is, will be, a lot "missing" in these posts but I hope so much that these photos will make you want to travel more, experience more and see how much the world has to offer. It is really so much easier than you'd think it is. And so much more exciting than photos could ever show.

Bangkok ist einfach verrückt. Es ist wunderschön und hässlich. Es riecht köstlich und stinkt entsetzlich. Es ist voll, laut, anstrengend und beruhigend, sanft, romantisch. Alt und historisch, modern und mit einer umwerfenden Skyline aus Hochhäusern. Es ist eine Stadt voller Kontraste und  einfach unvergleichbar. Manche lieben die Stadt, manche hassen es und ich muss sagen, ich musste erst ganz Thailand bereisen um am Ende nach Bangkok zurückzukehren und zu merken, dass ich sie liebe, wie wunderbar die Stadt doch ist. Die Fotos zeigen nicht annähernd alle Gesichter Bangkoks, fast nie hatte ich Zeit und Lust die Kamera rauszuholen wenn wir in Skytrains oder Taxis durch die Straßen fuhren oder stundenlang im Stau feststeckten und deswegen gibt es auch fast nur Fotos aus der touristischen Altstadt und Chinatown. Aber trotzdem gibt es euch einen kleinen Eindruck der Stadt, wie sie bestenfalls zu erleben ist. Ein paar Kilometer weiter reihen sich riesige, graue Apartmentblocks aneinander, gesäumt von sechsspurigen und ständig verstopften Straßen, ja, so wie man sich eine asiatische Megacity vorstellt. 

Dieser Post, und die die kommen, können euch nicht so wirklich ein Bild von Thailand schaffen, dafür ist das Land einfach viel viel zu facettenreich. Außerdem war es so oft so, dass ich einfach so viel erlebt habe, so bewusst die Momente erleben wollte, dass ich meine Kamera in der Tasche gelassen hab. Aber trotzdem, ich hoffe, ich kann euch ein bisschen dazu inspirieren, selber einfach mal den Rucksack zu packen und loszuziehen, einfach mehr zu reisen, mehr von der Welt zu sehen, die so unfassbar viel zu bieten hat. Es ist nämlich wirklich umkomplizierter als es immer klingt. Und noch viel spannender als Fotos jemals zeigen könnten.
